Field Trip #2 - Freshwater Environment

Place: Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge.
Location: West Palm Beach, FL.
Experience: Awesome!

10,389 acres of Loxahatchee Slough was purchased from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in October 1996. There are works in progress to combine forces with the J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area, the West Palm Beach Water Catchment Area, and Jonathan Dickinson State Park. This will expand the wildlife area and conserve more land area as well. Loxahatchee Slough is part of a countywide system for natural areas to be protected and help watch out for all environmental walks of life in this area.

My overall experience of the site was a very nice experience. I stayed a lot longer than I would because I was surprised at how many different types of birds I saw. I also loved watching the saw grass sway in the wind. I very much liked how at the entrance of the park there were different kinds of species listed on the bulletin board that gave me things to keep my eyes peeled for right off the bat.
